Cars

Granty Jes decided to buy herself a new car, and we were very happy to buy her old one. It is an Acura TSX. Whoopee!

It's a wonderful car. It's both solid and peppy, like an energetic but obedient horse. Though it's a 2004, our other cars are both from 1997. We definitely feel like we're moving up in the world. It has seat warmers.

We planned to sell the dear old Corolla for some small amount to someone who wouldn't mind that it was 20 years old, and had been totaled, and had a power steering leak. (Okay, perhaps a very small amount.)

And then it died. It wouldn't start. It might be fixable; we had an electrical problem a few months ago, and solved it by replacing the battery cables, which was cheap. But maybe that wasn't actually the problem. And we don't want to pursue it. Our local public radio station is the lucky recipient. If it's fixable, so much the better for them.

For us, it is time to say goodbye. I don't want to drive it anymore... but I am sentimental! We think we got that car in 2001, when we moved to the east coast, meaning it was only four years old at the time. That car was my primary vehicle for years. It has seen us through a lot. The kids had a tradition of cleaning it out for Mother's Day, which was a great gift, and felt appropriate since I surely do a lot of mothering in the car. This past Mother's Day, they cleaned it out for the last time. Farewell, old friend!

[Update: When we got the tax statement, it said the car sold for less than $500 - so we definitely made the right decision. Sigh!]
